PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a die cooling method and a die cooling device which can detect troubles such as the clogging of cooling hoses and breakage of core pins at an early stage independently for each cooling passage and also almost over the whole process in a casting step, even if there are many cooling passages for circulating cooling water and purge air therethrough. SOLUTION: An intermittent die cooling method is provided, in which cooling water is passed through each cooling passage 1 formed at a die A, thereafter, the cooling water remaining in the cooling passage 1 is air-purged, The method is characterized in that a delivery signal of the cooling water and/or purge air delivered to the cooling passage 1 and a detection signal to detect the circulation of the cooling water and/or purge air in the outlet side of the cooling passage 1 are judged, or, in an optional casting step where the cooling water and purge air are not delivered to the cooling passage 1, air for flow passage confirmation is delivered to the cooling passage 1, and a delivery signal of the air for flow passage confirmation and the detection signal having detected the circulation of the air for flow passage confirmation in the outlet side of the cooling passage 1 are judged in order to determine the cooling passage whether normal or abnormal.
