PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that it is necessary to increase film thickness of a main magnetic pole in order to compensate shortage of this recording magnetic field with respect to a magnetic head for vertical recording, while a main pole further approaches to an adjacent track and side erase occurs at a leading side of the main pole. SOLUTION: Occurrence of side erase at a leading side of a main pole is prevented by arranging side shields 2 only on both sides of a leading side of a main pole 1, and further connecting the side shield to either a return yoke of a trailing side or a shield of a leading side.
