PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To wind cables around a drum without a collapse of winding of cables even if a flange of the drum is deformed, and to wind more cables. SOLUTION: In an automatic alignment winding method of linear bodies, when the linear bodies 5 are wound in multi-layers around a rotating drum 3 having flanges 3B on its each side while relatively traversing and automatically aligning the linear bodies 5, and when the linear bodies 5 are wound in an n-th layer, each width between flanges on a linear line passing the center of measurement points of the linear bodies 5 wound in an (n+1)-th layer next to the n-th layer is detected in advance by a non-contact type flange width detection device 21 at a plurality of measurement points dividing the circumference of the flanges 3B into a plurality of sections. Based on the measured widths between flanges and outer diameters of the linear bodies 5, the number of winding of the linear bodies 5 wound in the (n+1)-th layer and an arrangement pitch P of each linear body 5 are calculated. Based on the calculated arrangement pitch P, depending on the situation, the linear bodies 5 are wound on between the linear bodies 5 that has been wound in the n-th layer, and between the linear bodies 5 in the n-th layer.
