PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a filter medium for water treatment to remove residual chlorine and other harmful substances contained in tap water which is inexpensive and convenient and reduces the pressure loss. SOLUTION: The filter medium consists of a shaped adsorption layer containing of a granular activated charcoal of particle sizes of 100-300μm as a single activated charcoal component, on the water inflow side, and a shaped adsorption layer based on a fibrous activated charcoal of a specific surface area of≥1,000 m<SP>2</SP>/g, on the water outflow side, and contains a natural fiber as a binder, and the inflow-side and outflow-side adsorption layers are shaped separately or in order.
