An apparatus (50a) for use in producing a crystal sheet includes a substrate (3) having a main surface on which a crystal sheet is formed, a crucible (9) holding a melt (8) therein, a movable member (2) holding the substrate (3) to move it to bring its main surface into contact with the melt (8) and then move the substrate (3) away from the melt (8), and cooling means for cooling the movable member (2).
