<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for switching between in-frame compression and inter-frame predicted difference compression for each image region. <P>SOLUTION: An image compression apparatus of the invention includes a motion vector detecting section, a determining section, an in-frame compression section, and an inter-frame compression section. The motion vector detecting section seeks for a motion vector between image data at plural positions on the image. The determining section determines an amount of spatial change on the image of the motion vector. The in-frame compression section selects an image region A determined to have a large spatial change of the motion vector from the image data to be compressed, and applies in-frame compression to the selected image region A. The inter-frame compression section selects an image region B determined to have a small spatial change of the motion vector from the image data to be compressed, and applies inter-frame predicted difference compression to the selected image region B. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT</p> |
