PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To display calling time even when a telephone apparatus is connected to a line having no polarity inversion such that the telephone apparatus is connected through a terminal adaptor or a private branch exchange. SOLUTION: The telephone apparatus includes a polarity inversion neglect mode setting means for forcedly inhibiting timing control based on polarity inversion independently of the sort of a terminal adaptor or a private branch exchange to be connected. When the polarity inversion neglect mode setting means is set to a polarity inversion neglect mode, a receiver is off-hooked and dial buttons are operated for a call, and after the lapse of previously set prescribed time from the transmission of a dial signal, the counting of calling time is started and the counted calling time is displayed on a display screen of an operation/display part 2.
