PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely remove discharge products over a long period by making a brush-like toner holding member hold a large amount of toner equivalent to that held by non-woven fabric. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a rotating image carrier; an electrifying means for electrifying the surface of the image carrier; an information writing means for forming an electrostatic latent image on the image carrier electrified by the electrifying means; a developing means for supplying developer to the electrostatic latent image formed on the image carrier and visualizing the electrostatic latent image; a transfer means for transferring the developed image visualized by the developing means to a transfer material or an intermediate transfer body; and the toner holding member disposed on the downstream side of the transfer means and on the upstream side of the electrifying means, so as to hold the toner on the contact surface thereof coming in contact with the image carrier; wherein the toner holding member is constituted of the brush-like member where fibers of≤1.5 denier are densely flocked.
