PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable traveling toy which can be manufactured and adjusted with less time and labor and at low cost. SOLUTION: The traveling toy is provided with a toy body 10 and a drive unit 20 for making the toy body 10 travel. The drive unit 20 is equipped with: a fixed member 21 attached to the toy body 10; a movable member 22 attached to the fixed member 21 so as to be horizontally turned; an elastic body such as a twisted coil spring 38 connecting the movable member 22 and the fixed member 21; a drive wheel 13 held by the movable member 22; and also a drive source 24 and transmission mechanisms 26-29 for rotating the drive wheel 13 to make the toy body 10 travel, and when the traveling is blocked by an obstacle or the like, horizontally turning the movable member 22 to change the direction of the drive wheel 13 and continue the traveling. When the movable member 22 is horizontally turned, a load to be reverse turning force is applied to the movable member 22 by the elastic body and the movable member 22 is horizontally turned in the reverse direction by the reverse turning force.
