PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide display presentation with superior visibility while preventing an operator from having eye-fatigue by automatically varying display brightness according to the lightness in an operation environment. SOLUTION: A display device 10 includes an image display unit 11, a light quantity detector 12, a brightness value determining unit 13, and an automatic brightness adjusting unit 14, and the brightness value determining unit 13 determines an optimum brightness value L from L=ρ×E/π, where E is ambient illuminance of the display device 10 detected by the light quantity detector 12 andρis a factor of proportionality of 0.8 to 1.0. Then an image that the automatic brightness adjusting unit 14 adjusts to the optimum brightness value L corresponding to ambient lightness of the display device 10 is displayed on the image display unit 11.
