A dryer monitor detects when textiles in a dryer are dry, detects when te xtiles in a dryer are overdry, and/or may count dryer cycles. The dryer moni tor includes a humidity sensor, a temperature sensor, a controller and vario us status indicators. The humidity and temperature sensors may be located ou tside the drying compartment of the dryer. In the case of a clothes dryer, t he humidity and temperature sensors may be located outside the drum of the d ryer and may be located, for example, in the exhaust compartment of the drye r. The dryer monitor determines dryness of items in the dryer, and may also determine whether the items are overdry, based on humidity information recei ved from the humidity sensor. The dryer monitor counts dryer cycles based on temperature information received from the temperature sensor.
