A method and an apparatus for improving the speed of a channel change of a digital broadcast receiver are provided to quickly change to a main channel according to a channel change command compared with a case where a broadcast signal of one channel adjacent to the main channel is buffered. Digital broadcast signals of a main channel and channels adjacent to both sides of the main channel are received in a broadcast mode(S401,S403). The digital broadcast signal of the main channel is displayed on a screen of a display unit of a receiver, and the digital broadcast signals of the adjacent channels are buffered(S405). It is checked whether or not a channel change command is inputted while the digital broadcast signal of the main channel is being displayed(S407). When the channel change command is inputted, a digital broadcast channel of a changed selected channel and digital broadcast signals of a plurality of channels positioned to be adjacent to one side of the selected channel are received, and the digital broadcast signal of the selected channel is displayed on the screen while the digital broadcast signals of the adjacent channels are buffered(S409,S411,S413,S415). |
