<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the memory capacity required for a recorder and to shorten the processing time of the entire system by mounting only a substantially basic program in a recorder and automatically downloading a program required for print processing. <P>SOLUTION: An ink jet printer 205 downloads a program required for printing from an external network 210, uses the program in printing, and stores the program in an external storage unit provided in the ink jet printer 205 or an external unit connected with the ink jet printer 205 on the outside thereof.
