Coated substrates include a substrate coated with a coating composition c omprising a metal oxide, a binder and optionally a mordant and a crosslinker for the binder. The substrate may be paper, such as commodity paper, and th e metal oxide may be a fumed metal oxide or a colloidal metal oxide. The coa ting may be non-glossy and may be applied at a low coat weight. Methods for making coated substrates are also disclosed. The coating may be applied to t he substrate during manufacture of the substrate, for example the coating ma y be applied to paper using a size-press machine during its manufacture.</SD OAB> |
