<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for generating space sensation, such as of a small space or a large space. <P>SOLUTION: In a public space such as a lobby in a hotel, there exists background noise (sound in which reverberation is added to the sound of footsteps) for making space sensation of a place, as shown by an impulse response waveform Q. When background masking noise N is output from a plurality of speakers with respect to the public space, perceived reverberation period is contracted to T<SB>2</SB>, dead (narrow) space feeling is generated. In such a state, for a part of space such as a meeting room, as shown in an impulse response waveform PA, pulse sound with a shorter reverberation period T<SB>3</SB>than T<SB>2</SB>, and with a larger amplification level than Q, is output from the speakers as trigger sound; thereby, the space sensation, such as a small partitioned space, is newly generated.
