PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for removing or for preventing a fuel injector deposition in a diesel engine. SOLUTION: The method compises practically removing or reducing the injector deposition formation in a diesel engine operated using a diesel fuel containing a small amount of metal-containing species. The method comprises adding to a diesel fuel a reaction product of a hydrocarbyl-substituted succinic acid or an acid anhydride thereof with hydrazine. The diesel engine is provided with a fuel injector having a plurality of spray holes, each of the spray holes having an inlet and an outlet, and the fuel injector has one or more of the following characteristics: (i) a spray hole having such a taper that an inlet diameter of the spray hole is larger than the outlet diameter thereof, (ii) a spray hole having an outlet diameter of 0.10 mm or less, (iii) a spray hole having the inlet inner edge rounded, (iv) spray holes of six or more, and (v) a running tip temperature of over 250°C.
