<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a line head which shows a stable light emission and less malfunctions, and to provide an image forming apparatus which employs the same and has less degradation in image quality. <P>SOLUTION: An organic EL element 2951 is installed at a rear face 2932 opposite to a front face 2931 opposed to a light shielding member 297 of a glass substrate 293. A light beam emitted from the organic EL element 2951 passes through the glass substrate 293 and goes towards the front face 2931. A part of the light beam goes to a contact part 300 between the light shielding member 297 and the glass substrate 293. A light absorbing layer 2972 is formed at the contact part 300. Consequently, reflection there is suppressed, and the light beam again going towards the rear face 2932 of the glass substrate 293 is reduced. Effects by the light beam to the organic EL element 2951 set at the rear face 2932 of the glass substrate 293 and to its driving circuit 296 can be reduced.
