PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control device of an internal combustion engine capable of early warming up a catalyst while effectively suppressing the variation of output torque. SOLUTION: This control device of the internal combustion engine so controls as to early warm up the catalyst. Specifically, when a supercharging pressure is raised to a pressure around which the blowby of an intake air occurs and the air-fuel ratio is set to rich, the control device so controls that the overlapped amount of the valve timings of an intake valve and an exhaust valve can be varied for each cylinder or at a predetermined time. By varying the overlapped amount, the blowby of intake can be adjusted, and O<SB>2</SB>and CO can be properly supplied to the catalyst. Since the control for varying the overlapped amount is performed in the control above, the variation of output torque does not almost occur. Consequently, by the control device of the internal combustion engine, the catalyst can be early warmed up while suppressing the occurrence of the variation of the output torque.
