A large-size diesel engine and an operating method thereof are provided to determine an influence factor for an individual subassembly of a large-size diesel engine from operating data of the large-size diesel engine or operating data of a peripheral device. A large-size diesel engine comprises an apparatus that outputs operating data of an engine in the form of a protocol during an operation of the engine. The apparatus determines an individual or unique subassembly influence factor for an individual subassembly of the engine from operating data of the engine, which is prepared in the form of a protocol. The apparatus generates a unique subassembly maintenance interval for each subassembly of the engine based on the influence factor. In order to generate the unique subassembly maintenance interval, different operating data are used for different subassemblies of the engine.
