<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer electrolyte membrane having superior proton conductivity in its thickness direction. <P>SOLUTION: The polymer electrolyte membrane, preferably, contains a polymer compound containing an ionic segment having an ionic functional group and non-ionic segment having substantially no ionic functional group, and the phase containing ionic segments and the phase containing non-ionic segments are phase-separated, and in the surface region thereof, the change in the amount of ionic segment from the surface toward the interior decreases substantially monotonically. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
