PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase flexibility for various pocket sizes of an automatic sewing assembly. SOLUTION: The automatic sewing assembly has a sewing station having a sewing machine for sewing material pieces (4, 5) which are placed one on top of the other, a support plate (9) for the material pieces (4, 5) and a feeding station (6). The feeding station (6) serves to feed/prepare the material pieces (4, 5) and is arranged upstream of the sewing station. The feeding station (6) has a positioning stopper (7) for setting a defined relative position of the two material pieces (4, 5) relative to the support plate (9). A cutting apparatus (10) has two cutting devices (11, 12) which are arranged with mutual spacing for peripheral cutting of a seam allowance of a seam (14) which is to be formed between the cuts (13) produced in this manner for sewing the two material pieces (4, 5).
