The method involves guiding a measuring rod over a length of a large tubular component perpendicular to a wall of the large tubular component, where the measuring rod is rotatable about a longitudinal axis of the large tubular component. An actuator (5) of the measuring rod is moved in longitudinal axis in such a manner that contactlessly operating distance sensors (2a, 2b) are driven at ends of the measuring rod in optimal measuring distances, where an occurring center positioning of a measuring device is balanced. An independent claim is also included for a system for measuring an inner roundness of a large tubular component.
