PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration in the quality of a moving image, where a plurality of identical images such as a movie image may continue, caused by motion compensation type frame rate conversion (FRC) processing. SOLUTION: An image display device has: an FRC section 10 for converting the number of frames of an input image signal by interpolating an image signal subjected to motion compensation processing between the frames of an input image signal; a genre determination section 14 for determining the genre of content to which an input image signal belongs; and a control section 15. The FRC section 10 has: a motion vector detection section 11e for detecting a motion vector between the frames of the input image signal; an interpolation vector evaluation section 11f for allocating an interpolation vector between the frames based on the motion vector information; and an interpolation frame generation section 12d for generating an interpolation frame from the interpolation vector. The control section 15 invalidates the motion compensation processing at the FRC section 10 by setting the motion vector detected by the motion vector detection section 11e to 0 vector.
