PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of preventing in-surface color irregularities (density unevenness) and a color difference (a density difference) between front and back surfaces from being caused in both-side read images when reading a both-sided document. SOLUTION: The image reader includes an image correcting means for applying shading correction processing to document image data, on the basis of data obtained by reading by a reading means at least not less than two different gradation patches on a reference document having a plurality of halftone gradation patches. The image correcting means changes over the correction coefficient of a shading correction value by each arbitrary range in a main scanning direction and a sub-scanning direction.
