PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a traverse grinding device and grinding method which suppresses uneven wear of a grinding wheel cylindrical surface and highly accurately grinds the cylindrical outer surface of a workpiece in grinding of the cylindrical outer surface of the workpiece. SOLUTION: The traverse grinding device comprises: a workpiece rotating drive mechanism for rotating workpiece to be ground on the rotational axis of the workpiece; a grinding wheel which rotates on the rotational axis inclined with respect to the rotational axis of the workpiece; and a traverse feed mechanism for traversing the grinding wheel along the rotational axis of the workpiece.
