Melt-spinning machine has a gear pump (4) which feeds melt from a tank (1) via a feed pipe (2) to the spinning units (7). A spiral pump (11) is mounted between the feed pipe and gear pump to increase the pressure of the melt flowing into it. An independent claim is included for a method for operating melt-spinning machines in which the pressure of the melt in the feed pipe is increased before it is fed to the gear pump.
