PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for imparting specific image information and a method for identifying specific image information in which the specific image information can be detected, read out and identified quickly even if the arrangement of a pattern constituting the specific image information is altered. SOLUTION: In the method for imparting specific image information about a recording image to the recording image, the specific image information is formed of a pattern group 10 consisting of a plurality of patterns (11a-11d), and the pattern has directional information (Z1-Z3) indicating the direction where a pattern to be read out next exists. The pattern includes a plurality of pieces of figure information 12a and 12b, and the direction of a line 13 connecting the centers of the plurality of pieces of figure information provides the directional information Z.
