PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a proper period to be set with respect to a time-out period of waiting for reception. SOLUTION: In a communication system having a plurality of ECUs (Electronic Control Units) connected to an in-vehicle LAN, a remote operation accepting ECU communicates with slave ECUs such as a collating ECU and a body ECU to perform processing relating to remote operations such as door locking/unlocking, in cooperation with other ECUs. On reception of request data from the remote operation accepting ECU, each slave ECU transmits acceptance response data wherein information showing a maximum execution period required for the completion of processing (door locking/unlocking processing or the like) requested by the request data is stored, to a request source ECU before transmitting completion response data showing an execution result of the processing. Meanwhile, on reception of the acceptance response data, the remote operation accepting ECU sets a period corresponding to the maximum execution period of the requested processing, as the time-out period of a reception waiting operation relating to the completion response data, on the basis of information of the maximum execution period shown by the acceptance response data (S250).
