<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus and a control method capable of achieving an image of appropriate image definition, density and color tone without causing excessive developer consumption and reduction in productivity. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a printer section 120 equipped with a photoreceptor drum 1, an exposure part 3, a developing device 4, an intermediate transfer belt 5A and a density detecting part 10; and a controller section 130 equipped with a printing ratio judging part 134. When being judged by the printing ratio judging part 134 that the printing ratio is within the set extent, the controller section 130 performs a paper-to-paper gradation control comprising the image formation of a paper-to-paper gradation control patch image on the photoreceptor drum 1, the density detection of the paper-to-paper gradation control patch image and the image density control of the patch image at set intervals. When being judged by the printing ratio judging part 134 that the printing ratio is beyond the set extent, the controller section 130 changes the execution frequency of the paper-to-paper gradation control. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
