<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a foreign protein in a fermentation culture medium, on an industrial scale with an E. coli (Escherichia coli) strain,by which the protein is secreted into the fermentation culture medium in high yield and the foreign protein can directly be purified from the fermentation culture medium,without further post-treatments. <P>SOLUTION: The method characterized includes steps wherein the E. coli strain, having a gene provided with a mutation in an lpp gene or a promoter region of the lpp gene, encoding the foreign protein and functionally linked to a signal sequence encoding a signal peptide, is fermented in the fermentation culture medium on the industrial scale; and in the process, the E. coli strain secretes the foreign protein into the fermentation culture medium, and the protein is separated from the fermentation culture medium.
