PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new squarylium metal complex pigment having a preferable hue for reproducing a color in a visible region and having a good fastness such as weather resistance, preservability, etc., an ink, a color toner, an optical recording medium, a color filter and a front surface filter for a display containing the pigment.

SOLUTION: This squarylium metal complex compound having a partial structure expressed by general formula (1) [wherein, M is a metal atom; ring B is a heterocyclic 6-membered ring containing a carbon atom at the bonding position with a squarylic acid backbone and a nitrogen atom at its adjacent position; R is a substituent; (m) is an integer of 1 to 4; and A is an optional organic group].
