PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface acoustic wave resonator which is capable of restraining spurious resonance, and has a high Q value and a large amount of attenuation and to provide a surface acoustic wave filter and an antenna duplexer using the same. SOLUTION: The surface acoustic wave resonator of this invention is equipped with a substrate 1 of lithium niobate, at least, an interdigital electrode 2, which is provided on the upper surface of the substrate 1 and formed of aluminum or an aluminum alloy, and a protective film 4 which covers the interdigital electrode 2 and has a rugged surface. The cut angle of a rotation Y board of the substrate 1 is set at 0 to +25 degrees, and provided that the thickness of the interdigital electrode 2 and wavelength are represented by h andλ, normalized electrode thickness (h/λ) is set at 7.8 to 9.8%.
