A fluorescent lamp (10) is provided with a light emitting tube (102), which has a phosphor film on the inner surface, is filled with a discharge gas and composed of a translucent material; a first internal electrode (101a) sealed at one end portion of the light emitting tube (102) for applying a high frequency rectangular alternating current voltage; a second internal electrode (101b), which is sealed at the end portion of the light emitting tube (102) on the opposite side to the first internal electrode (101a); and an external electrode (103) arranged along the longitudinal direction of the light emitting tube at a prescribed distance from the light emitting tube (102). Outside the fluorescent lamp (102), a capacitive internal charge discharging means (104) is electrically connected to the second internal electrode (101b).
