PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent device in which carrier balancing is simply adjusted according to temperature change, and a long lifetime of the organic EL element is realized. SOLUTION: The organic electroluminescent device l00 has an organic functional layer 7 installed between a pair of electrodes 3, 8. A self-compensation carrier adjusting member 50 which has a resistance temperature coefficient of opposite polarity to the resistance temperature coefficient in each electrode 3, 8, and adjusts carrier balancing between the electrodes 3, 8 is installed on at least one of the electrodes 3, 8.
