PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To objectively and numerically judge acceptance or rejection of the straightness of a bar, omitting manual work, enabling judging(determining) the straightness of the bar mechanically and automatically, requiring no skill for the work. SOLUTION: The system includes a reference long member 2 having a straight-line knife edge 2a; a frame 1 provided with facingly disposed bar supporting members 3 and 4 with at a predetermined interval to the knife 2a, disposed movably in the longitudinal direction of the reference long member 2 and the bar 9; and a light emission means 5 and a light reception means 6 disposed above and below the reference long member 2 and the bar 9 supported by the bar supporting members 2 and 3. A straightness operation means 7 operates the distance between the bar 9 and the knife edge 2a at every measurement point in the longitudinal direction of the bar 9 based on an output signal obtained via the light reception means 6.
