PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin-film magnetic head capable of suppressing the protrusion of a recording/reproducing element to a recording medium side without changing the configuration or the material of the recording/reproducing element. SOLUTION: This thin-film magnetic head is provided with a recording/reproducing element, a lead conductor layer for supplying power to the recording/reproducing element, a conductive bump for making conductive and interconnecting the lead conductor layer and external connection electrode pad, and an insulative protective layer for filling a gap between the recording/reproducing element and the conductive bump. In the insulative protective layer, a thermal deformation suppressing layer made of a material smaller in thermal expansion factor than the insulative protective film is positioned between a medium opposite surface and the conductive bump without being exposed to the opposite surface of the recording medium.
