PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mask for a liquid crystal display element which is improved in manufacturability, and to provide its manufacturing method. SOLUTION: A sealing agent is applied to one principal surface of a dummy glass substrate correspondingly to a seal pattern and is stuck to a resin black layer 27 applied to one principal surface of a glass substrate 26 and is hardened. The glass substrate 26 and the dummy glass substrate are peeled from each other, and a part stuck to a dummy seal pattern corresponding to the seal pattern by the hardened sealing agent, of the resin black layer 27 is removed to form a mask pattern M on the glass substrate 26.
