The position detection system of a detection body is characterized by comprising a section (3) for generating a position detecting magnetic field, a detection body (5) having a resonance circuit (21) generating a resonance magnetic field and an external signal type switch for connecting/disconnecting the passage of the resonance circuit (21), a switch control section (7) for controlling connection/disconnection of the external signal type switch, a position detecting magnetic field detection section (9) for detecting at least one of the magnetic field strengths of the position detection magnetic field and the resonance magnetic field, and a section (11) for calculating the position and the orientation of the detection body (5) based on the detection signal from the position detecting magnetic field detection section (9).
