<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To search a previous or future image of a person based on an image of the person at a certain point of time. <P>SOLUTION: A number of frames of retrieval destination images are classified to groups by date of photographing (group Gr0, etc.). An image photographed at a certain point of time is designated as a first retrieval source image. From the group Gr0 to which the designated retrieval source image belongs, a retrieval destination image containing a face image similar to a face image contained in the designated retrieval source image is searched. The searched retrieval destination image is taken as a new retrieval source image, and an image containing a face image similar to a face image contained in the new retrieval source image is searched from retrieval destination images belonging to a group Gr(-1) (or group Gr(+1)) of the previous year (or following year).
