PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical scanner 5 in an image forming apparatus or the like, the optical scanner 5 effectively shielding flare light generated from scanning lenses 65, 66 without increasing noise due to a deflector 62. SOLUTION: The optical scanner 5 has scanning optical systems which are arranged to face each other centering on the deflector 62 and scan scanned planes with respective light beams deflected by the deflector 62, wherein a light shielding material 89a for shielding the flare light from the scanning lens 65 (called a first scanning lens) of an arbitrary scanning optical system so that the flare light is not made incident on the scanning lens 66 (called a second scanning lens) of the opposite scanning optical system is arranged at a position nearer to the second scanning lens 66 than to the first scanning lens 65.
