PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent hunting of a gear ratio during line pressure feedback control. SOLUTION: In this belt type continuously variable transmission adjusting the gear ratio according to the driving amount of a step motor, when deviation between an actual gear ratio and a target gear ratio becomes a predetermined value or more during feedback control for lowering line pressure to the utmost, line pressure feedback control is stopped and line pressure is increased and compensated (S1, S5, S6).
