摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus for enhancing the accuracy of image detection in the subscanning direction by forming a light receiving element of a line sensor to be long in the main scanning direction and short in the subscanning direction. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus includes: an irradiation section which irradiates a document with light; a read section which outputs an image signal by receiving reflection light of the irradiation light of the irradiation unit from the document while using line sensors 2R, 2G, 2B each of which includes a plurality of light-receiving elements for color image signal detection in the main scanning direction and a line sensor 2B/W including a plurality of light receiving elements for monochromatic image signal detection in the main scanning direction, where a light receiving element has a length of one side in the main scanning direction longer than a length of one side in the subscanning direction perpendicular to the main scanning direction, and a ratio of 2:1 is provided between the length of one side in the main scanning direction of the light receiving element for color image signal detection and the length of one side in the main scanning direction of the light receiving element for monochromatic image signal detection; and a processing section for applying predetermined processing to a read image signal and providing an output.
