PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a time required for analysis and to enhance quantitative determination precision by extracting quickly and efficiently hexavalent chromium in paint. SOLUTION: Barium sulfate powder and a hexavalent chromium extracting alkaline solution are added to the paint, a mixture therein is heatedly stirred by a hot stirrer, and the hexavalent chromium in an extract obtained by this manner is quantitatively determined by a diphenyl carbazide absorptiometry. Alternatively, a titania bead and the hexavalent chromium extracting alkaline solution are added to the paint, a mixture is stored in a sealed container, the sealed container is mounted on a three-dimensional motion shaker to be heatedly stirred, and the hexavalent chromium in an extract obtained by this manner is quantitatively determined by the diphenyl carbazide absorptiometry. The hexavalent chromium extracting alkaline solution contains sodium carbonate and sodium hydroxide, and is added thereto with a phosphoric acid buffer solution containing magnesium ion.
