The device has a control device and image sensors monitoring alertness of a person operating a motor vehicle. A seat-belt pretensioner (4) tightens a safety belt (3) to the person operating the vehicle when the control device activates the belt pretensioner. The control device activates the belt pretensioner, when the control device and the image sensors identify that the person operating the motor vehicle is inattentive. The seat belt pretensioner tightens the safety belt with an oscillation. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a motor vehicle comprising a driver seat (2) a method for warning a person operating a motor vehicle.
