The device (1) has a cleaning area (10), and a motor (8) for exposing broken glass pieces in the cleaning area. The cleaning area has a material inlet (14) and a material outlet (15) that is arranged in a lower region of the cleaning area. The motor is adjusted such that a directed upward motion of the broken glass pieces is generated within the cleaning area. The material outlet is provided at a base (12) of the cleaning area or in proximity to the base. An independent claim is also included for a method for cleaning broken pieces.
