A heat recovery ventilator and a method of controlling the same are provided to allow an operator to take complementary measures with regard to position errors for a damper by giving an alarm. A heat recovery ventilator comprises a delivery duct(25) as a feeding unit, which is disposed in a box type case(10), a discharge duct(15) as a discharge unit, and a heat exchanger(20) interposed therebetween. The delivery duct directs an outdoor air into the interior of the room. The discharge duct directs an indoor air to the exterior. Heat transfer is completed between the feeding outdoor air and a discharging indoor air in the area where the delivery duct and the discharge duct are intersecting with each other. When the indoor air is discharged to the exterior, the indoor air inhaled through a discharge suction port(12) discharges through a discharging port(22) of the discharge duct.
