Use of water-soluble polyvinyl alcohol as adhesive for plastic labels

Glueing plastic labels onto plastic articles by coating one side of the label with polyvinyl alcohol, wetting the coating with water and contacting the coated side of the label with the article comprises using a polyvinyl alcohol with a degree of hydrolysis of 52-72 mole%. An independent claim is also included for recycling plastic from plastic articles having plastic labels glued on with polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) by comminuting the labeled articles, suspending the comminuted material in an aqueous medium to dissolve the PVA, and separating the comminuted articles from the comminuted labels.
