A modulation apparatus and a modulating method of a specific light source used as a laser display source are provided to improve a laser display by clearly discriminating the brightness of pixels through digital on/off modulations in controlling the brightness. A modulation apparatus of a specific light source used as a laser display source is composed of a frequency modulating unit for digitally on/off-modulating the output light(DBR-LD) of a semiconductor laser at the frequency higher than repetition frequency required to form a laser display image and a high-speed pulse including unit including at least one high-speed pulse corresponding to the brightness of the pixels within a predetermined period in the modulated output light required to form one pixel.
