A method for monitoring security with face recognition and a face recognition device thereof are provided to detect effective moving pixels from a captured moving picture, extract a face area correctly based on color area fusing filtering, and control operation of an ATM depending on distortion of each face component, thereby preventing illegal transaction in the ATM(Automated Teller Machine). An image input part(120) captures real-time movement of an object in a moving picture. An image capturer(130) converts an image signal of the moving picture by a digital frame unit. A movement detector(140) discriminates an effective moving pixel and a background pixel according to a result value generated by executing a subtraction operation for each pixel of the digital frame. A candidate human area detector(150) forms coordinate information of a candidate human area. A face detector(160) detects a face area by repeating color space fusing filtering for the coordinate information of the candidate human area. A face component detector(170) determines distortion of each face component by detecting each face component according to the result value of cross-relation matching filtering between a normalized face area and a reference template. A controller(190) determines the operation of the ATM depending on the distortion.
