A light irradiation apparatus and an inkjet printer are provided to increase irradiance uniformity in the longitudinal direction of light collected linearly. A light irradiation apparatus comprises a short arc type discharge lamp(9) that a pair of electrodes face each other in a discharge vessel, and an optical element collecting light from the lamp. A plurality of rod lenses(14) are arranged in parallel on a plane surface perpendicular to the axis of light irradiated from the optical element. The optical element is a reflector(11) surrounding the discharge lamp and equipped with an oval reflection surface reflecting light irradiated from the discharge lamp.
